Outing to the Orpington Fire Station

At the beginning of March the Guide unit had a trip to Orpington Fire Station.  We arranged for a talk from a female fire fighter as well as a tour of the building and engine.  We met Lisa as well as some of her colleagues from Green Watch.  Lisa provided an interesting talk which kept the girls engaged with the opportunity to ask questions and tackle perceptions of a fire fighter.  We split in to two groups to see around the station including the control room, kitchen, gym, kit room, bedrooms and lounge.

However the highlight was seeing all the equipment in the engine and getting to sit inside it.  The girls got the opportunity to ask loads of questions about the equipment and got to try out the thermal camera as well as watching a few firefighters come down the pole!  It was a successful trip which all the Guides thoroughly enjoyed.
