Hope4Malawi — a new fundraising partner for 2018
At the October Church Meeting we talked about the possibility of having Hope4Malawi as our big project fundraiser for 2018. Hope4Malawi is involved in projects in rural villages, schools and orphanages in Malawi; one of the world’s least developed countries. They are currently planning to build a secondary school to serve the area of Chipepwete and it was decided at church meeting that we would like to contribute towards this project through fundraising with the intention of raising around £8000 to specifically build a toilet block for the school.
In order to ensure that we are working with an organisation and a project that is going to truly deliver a sustainable impact for the community in Malawi, we have the following information to share with everyone:
Hope for Malawi is a registered charity, number: 1151124. They have been established since 2013 and have annually complied with all charity commission requirements.
They have a formal and very well constructed project proposal for the building of the new secondary school which they are also using to apply for grant funding, on top of holding their own fundraising events in 2018 to ensure all the necessary funds are available for the complete building of the school.
Once the school has been built there is an agreement with the local government that they will take on the running costs for the school, including teachers’ salaries, they just simply don’t have the capital available for the building work.
If anyone would like any more detailed information then please speak to either Alix and Ian Purton or Lizzie Howells. We will also be welcoming Sara and Mark from Hope4Malawi to St John’s in the near future and they will certainly welcome questions and conversations about the different aspects of the project.
