World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer -  Friday 1st March 2019

Just what is the World Day of Prayer?

It’s an international, inter-church organisation which enables us to hear the voices of women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers.  Every year on the first Friday in March, people all over the world will be holding services and praying.

The programme of worship this year is offered by women in Slovenia. The theme of the service is the parable Jesus told about the rich man who was preparing a great banquet and invited the guests, saying

 ‘Come, everything is ready’

We envisage a great wave of prayer, rising with the sun over the island of Samoa and sweeping across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, coming to rest in American Samoa some 36 hours later. By then WDP services will have been celebrated in over 170 countries.

On Friday 1st March

We in Orpington will have the opportunity to be a part of that great wave of prayer. There are two services in our area – they are at differing times, so people can choose one that fits in with their day’s activities.

Each year the services are at different churches. This year they are:

Holy Innocents Church, Orpington -  Service begins at 11.00am

St Michael and All Angels, Locksbottom – Service begins at 7.00pm

Refreshments follow each service, with a chance to meet people from the other churches.

All are welcome to attend, men, women and people of all ages. Do come and be a part of this World Day of Prayer.
